SOME FACTS TO CONSIDER
Updated 6/1/05

Property Tax:   Nearly $1 million dollars per year in property taxes.
Sales Tax Revenue:

Sales tax rev: we are now projecting sales of about $ 250 million annually and at 3 1/2 % toPutnam that equals almost $9 million every year.  Combined with property taxes this would be about $ 10 million in tax revenue to Putnam, $200,000 every week.

Jobs:

Hundreds of skilled trade jobs will be created during the construction phase.

More Jobs:  500 permanent jobs created.
Payroll Taxes:    Significant payroll taxes would be generated from the project.
Environment:   Reduced travel time and distance for our shopping necessities, lowering the amount of money spent on gasoline. Less consumption of fuel and less auto emissions will benefit the environment .
Additional Sales:

Additional visitors to the area will likely increase sales at existing business establishments, such as Kohl’s, Michaels and other stores at Highland Plaza.  This will bring more sales tax revenue to Putnam County and bolster the local economy.

Schools:

NO increase in resident population or the number of public school students.

Tax Relief:  This project would help prevent future increases in property and sales taxes as well as furthering the Shop Putnam initiative.
Stormwater:   The project will use approved engineered systems to control stormwater runoff and protect Lake Carmel. The vast majority of stormwater from the site does not and will not flow toward Lake Carmel.  Existing drainage conditions which currently do impact Lake Carmel will be corrected.
Traffic:

Proposed off-site traffic improvements such as new traffic lights at nearby intersections would improve roadway safety in the surrounding community.

Land Use:

34 acres will be developed with buildings and parking and the remaining 56 acres would be natural or landscaped. Only 7.4% of the impervious surface stormwater runoff drains toward Lake Carmel, the remainder drains away from it. Regardless, all stormwater is controlled on site by engineered systems that manage the flow.
